Global Fat Bike Day at Hummingbird Retreat

Last weekend, I had the opportunity to celebrate Global Fat Bike Day-Wisconsin, an event organized by George Kapitz and the team from Broken Spoke Bike Studio. This all-day event took place at Hummingbird Retreat and Point Beach State Park just outside Two Rivers, Wisconsin. That afternoon, around 150 riders aged 6 to 70 headed through the woods for the beach.

A large group of fat bike cyclists ride their bikes on a sandy beach in chilly weather.

This was my first experience riding my fat bike on the beach. If you haven’t tried it yet, put a beach ride at the top of your to-do list. (Or better yet, a moonlight beach ride.)

As darkness fell, about 30 of us headed back out for an evening ride, followed by pizza and (more) beer. A round of Rölhol closed out the night.

Thank you to George Kapitz and Broken Spoke and Kevin Voysey and Hummingbird Retreat for their hospitality, and Lottie Lillian for capturing the images of the event.
